Need help locking doors (archive)

1982 733...at times when I turn the key to lock the drivers door the locks engage. When the key is is turned straight up and down (to remove) all the locks unlock. I've tried this slow, fast etc. It doesn't do it all the time but enough to be a "pain". When I first got the car, 2 weeks ago I could hear the locking system "cycling"(trying to lock or unlock) as I was driving down the street. Let me guess......there is something wrong with the central locking system?
