Thanks for the directions into the archives Grant and your information on your experience. I'll have to do some more long roadtrip tests. Last year I took the '84 down from Boston to the west coast of Mexico and back and averaged 20 mpg at 80 mph for the trip, including mountain crossing. I think the highest for any section was 25 mpg driving like a granny through some flatlands. My '85 euro is used for short trips to the office etc. and only one trip to Vermont where it averaged 25 mpg, but the trip wasn't long enough to average over several tanks. Obviously the longer legs of the 3.25 rear end must help. I keep meaning to have my speedo's tested to verify their accuracy for additional testing. Just changing tire size from 205/70-14 to metric tires has some effect on the instruments. Regarding the O2 sensor, I like the idea of being able to turn it on and off, or even to be able to control it more acurately. My euro had flats spots until I took off the aftermarket box that was added to interpret the O2 sensor and it still had deliterious effects on the motronic functioning even though the wire to the O2 was disconnected. After cutting out the box and rehooking up the wired to the motronic directly, the car was much more powerful throughout the powerband, particularly after 4000 rpm.
My '85 735 also has over 300,000 miles and the motor still feels young and feisty.
Cheers!
