Well, that is a very good point... BUT... I have looked for a 745i in the same condition as my 735 for about 4 years... You guessed it... no luck.. Peoples definition of #1 condition car are a far cry from mine and I have yet to see another 7 series of that era even close to mine (anyone who has one in #1 condition 745 and wants to sell leave me a message) Now I am a serious car collector and have many cars and am very used to performance and this car has never and will never be used as a daily driver. I want to modify it because the 735I is a lathargic slug and I have a hard time appreciating a car as nice as it is that does not have the power to pull it self down the road in a respectable manner! I have an STS as my daily car... Its a hard comparison, and there are very few sedans that run like the cad (nothing but new M5 stick only!), but my goal is to make the BMW run as I really like the cars looks, condition and overall quality dispite its gross underpowering. I know the 745 does not have that much more power (88 to be exact), but the turbo config on the 8.1 comp M30 motor will produce about 350HP on a safe configuration, and will go well over 400 it the boost is turned up to 18psi with proper fuel. I have done a bit of reasearch on this, have 25 years of turbo experience on other cars, and have most of the bmw parts to do it ,but am looking for info from someone who might have done this as I dont want to go into if blind. I have no desire to ruin this 735 as I belive it to be the nicest 86 7 series possibly in existance and it will stay that way with or without turbo. I did try to sell it before I decided to do this, but no one would step up to the plate on an old BMW that is know for being a maintnance nightmare. Lets face it, its no gullwing, so the offers were insulting. I am going to keep it and I want to like its performance and enjoy driving it about 1000 miles a year, so it need about 110-125 more HP! I intend to make it a 745i in almost every way under the hood using my motor, the right way and so I placed this here on the bmw site where other people own and work on similar cars only to have mostly sarcasm and disbelief returned. Thanks for the honest replys, and any positive or negitive input in an honest manner is appreciated.
I surely would not go about this on a mint 12K car personally....
