I have an 86 735i that recently got this problem. The engine cranks over but there is no spark. I have checked all relays and such and cant figure it out. A new coil is on the way, hope it helps. The coil does receive 12v, but nothing comes out. Any ideas?

Sounds like flywheel sensors - if they don't read the reference pin on the flywheel and the flywheel teeth, the control unit won't make spark. The sensors are on the trans case, driver's side under the car. They connect through the rear intake manifold support - two plugs side by side. The sensors are around $100 each at the dealer. The problem could be one sensor or the other but if you plan to keep the car it's worth it to replace both.
