OK, this may or not help.

I tried to call the number and got the same thing you did. The first ring sounds like a cell phone and the following 4 are regular lines. i.e., his cell is turned off.

How about the JL services company, have you had any luck hunting it down via the internet, 411. Maybe somebody with a telephone directory software package can search it out. My software is from 1992 so I tossed it awhile ago.
