Sounds like a lean condition is present. You could verify by checking the O2 sensor voltage, if you have one, and fuel pressure under load. Some possible causes are the throttle switch, clogged fuel injectors, vacuum or intake air leak, AFM, fuel pressure or fuel delivery. You have to be methodical here as each sub-system has its own specific tests and adjustments to be performed. A good reference for the fuel injection system is Bosch Fuel Injection & Engine Management by Robert Bentley.

'85 745, I have replaced plugs, cap & rotor, fuel pressure regulator, fuel filter and outside of tank fuel pump. Also all vac lines attached & in good shape. Still will spit, sputter and backfire after about 2400rpm during wto. Back off the accelerator a bit and it will run fine. Any help or suggestions would be great.
