As I was disassembling the accessories, I encountered a freedom of movement issue with the A/C belt. It seemed like the compressor only moved 1/2 of the normal amount and required a little persuasion from a screwdriver to allow removal of the belt. When this occurred I looked around to see what the problem was -- maybe a missed bolt? Since the leverage worked I moved on.
Now as I was re-assembling yesterday, I encountered the same problem in reverse. I investigated a little more and actually moved the compressor back and forth a couple of times. Decided it was a task for the next time I need to do this and moved on. I put the belt on and proceeded to take up the slack. That's when I heard the hissing sound. Since I connected the battery and added all of the fluids I quickly got up and checked around.
Seems that the A/C hose (not sure if return or discharge) from the compressor was causing the "binding" and the motion back and forth caused the binding between the steel section and rubber to fail from fatique. Now I have the wonderful opportunity to replace that hose.
Has anyone seen this before? What was I doing wrong?
