Aaron, Your should hear the pump running. The pump comes on as soon as the key is in the start position. Mine runs for about 40 seconds before it shuts off. I am sure under low vacuum conditions it runs but of course I can't hear it running while driving.

As far as voltage I would have to put a meter on mine to check it but I am pretty sure it is 12 volts.

I do know that the pump will die after about 15 years or so thats what several people have told me. I replaced mine from someone who left a post on parting out a car for $50.00. Priced it new it was $230.00 from the dealer.

Hope this helps.

1) when should the pump run. i.e. key in start position? while running? both?
2) how many volts should it be getting? running vs not?
3)should you be able to hear it? feel it running?
mine is getting 4+ w/ key on & 5.5 or so when running, but I cant hear or feel it run. Is it bad? TIA
