You most likely need a new tank. If you lost half of a tank then the gas filler neck if likely rusted off of the tank. You can open the filler door and carefully reach down past the rubber gasket and feel for a hole or rust. Not much you can do but replace the tank. There is also the possibility that your seam has rusted through, but in any case the tank should be replaced. I have repaired the vapor tubes at the top of a tank if they start to leak, but that sympton is a fuel smell when the tank is topped off or when cornering. Losing half a tank is obviously more serious.

Good luck

On the way home today i noticed a strong petrol smell and found when i got home that my fuel tank was leaking. I lost half a tank on the way home. I can't see any obvious leaks, but will jack it up tomorrow and have a good look. Anything i should look for or do to it? Is this likely to be costly? What would be the best way to go about repairing this problem?
Thanks for any help
