I'm still trying to learn all I can about E23's to see if one of these cars is what I really want for a daily driver. I've noticed there have been lots of posts about trouble with the HVAC systems on these cars. Can somebody summarize briefly what the nature of this trouble is (signs/symptoms) and how much to expect it to cost? And if fixing it involves taking apart the dash, I'm outa here. Thanks!

Larry we hate to lose you before you get started, but the HVAC is a problem on the 7 series. Yes you do have to take the dash and cowling apart to do serious work. Most of the problems are due to neglect by the former owners. The HVAC can be fixed and when it is operating as designed is a very good system. The 5 and 3 series have a much simpler system. But if you live in the south forget the AC system on the 5 and 3 series, they will not cool the car!
