An '83 733i has just come into the extended family.

As the designated wrench for the family, I'm now the
guy who has to see to restoring it to robust good
health. Although it's got some obvious wear on it
at 150K, it's still a stout enough car to leave me
impressed with the E23 design.

Got questions, though. You guys seem to really be
on it with this marque and these cars in particular;
hope you can shed some light.

Vehicle is on original engine and Getrag 5-spd. Starts
easily, runs smoothly, does not appear to be consuming
much if any oil. It's got an evident valve tick at idle.
Not sure if I should worry about that or not?

I plan to shift it immediately to fresh heavy oil
(15w40, nonsynth) and new MTL. I don't have a manual
to hand here and so I'm not sure what weight of MTL to
use, nor how much of it, nor how much oil to purchase.
If anyone's got a manual and can fill me in, great.

Will change the diff to Mobil 1 75w90 synth gear oil ASAP.

Will flush cooling system with distilled a couple of
times and refill with 50/50 distilled plus Dex-Cool.

Rear shocks seem clapped out. Fronts probably the same.
Tie rods and the like seem OK. Are shock/strut replacement
jobs something that a smart DIY guy can handle (with a
spring compressor), or best left to a shop?

Thanks in advance for any clues you can send my way,

Ron H
