my tranny doesn't engage into gear any more. only reverse works. the car was driving fine and now nothing. I had drive it home in reverse. What could the problem be?
someone please help. the tranny was rebuilt less than 2 years ago. less than 20K miles ago. I read somewhere that there is something funny about these trannys.

Need a few more specifics. Does it move at all, even a little, in D, 1, 2, or 3? Does it move if you select "1,2,3" or "sport"? Does the tranny make any sounds like it actually engaged a gear? You might check the linkage to begin with. If it is like my 4HP22 there is a simple cable to a lever on the side of the tranny, activated by the shift lever. As you progress from Park through the gear selector, the lever arm on the tranny should move towards the back of the car. Perhaps the linkage has come loose. If you are really low on fluid it may not work either, but that should have impacted reverse as well.
