I was wondering if anyone knew the actual top speed for a 733i (1982 non-euro) Or did BMW rip us off and give us a car that only does 85mph while the 735 can get to approx. 140mph with an engine that is .2L larger.
Also if the Top Speed is above 85mph is there a way to swap the face and reprogram the movement so it is like a 735's Speedo....but with out changing the O.D.O. if possible.

Thats been pissing me off too. I have an 82 733i and the owners manual says top speed on a 5spd is something like 122 mph. I think it is some sort of legal thing. If your figure out a way to replace speedometer with a one with a larger range, let me know.
