My understanding is that the A designates the car as having an automatic transmission. I don't recall where I read this, so I can't tell you for sure. Would make sense though...

My 86 735i has 735i/A on the door post. It has many "extra" options like 2 level heated front seats,memory power seats,speakers on the door inside the mirrors placement,fog light switch (no lights),rear(back) window shade,3 position shift and a LOT more power than my 733i. I would apperciate and comments.
