You have to look at what you are comparing. The 745i is at newest 14 going on 15 years old and it still keeps up w/ 2000 model years. Turbo cars are not ment to be 1/4 mi. machines. Except the Buick GN which will still F#@* up a new Camaro or Firebird and even most Vettes. The camaro will not hit 160, not gonna happen. My fathers 92 Vette w/ LT1 only did 152 on full tank and two medium size people in it before I made the mistake of grabbing 6th. My 745i was doing 140 @ 4500 RPM still pulling strong before I had to lift off the gas. The difference is, you take a BMW sedan 745i,M5,M6 of 10-15 years ago to a road course track and pin them up againt new Camaro's and the like and run them all day long and the BMW will make minsed meat out the the pony cars. You will be trucking the pony cars home, they are not meant to be punished like BMW i.e. brake fade, motor, transmission. (ZF is the best transmision Co. in the world, (personal opinion)) The engineering is not even close. I will tell you why, The germans keep tighter tolerances on their cars. US may keep +/-.005 whereas they may keep tolerances of +/- .002. They fit better and last longer. Also Germans can go 120 mph everyday. Not here. BMW is about 10-15 years ahead of US manufactures in advancements in Technology, and the styling and functionality of the cars is far superior too. Are they worth the $$$ you bet. I just can't wait till I can affort a newer one. Ahh maybe i'll just get a 911 turbo instead... Oh, and by the way the Stock 745i w/ a 3.45:1 diff. will keep with a new z-28 or trans am. I pulled from behind a guy in a trans am out to the left lane to pass and the douchebag didn't want me to pass so I eased it down to the button but didn't touch it and was able to stay with him from about 15-80 and then I started to pull up on him. If the car does that w/o the button and all the turbo lag from near idle, what's gonna happen when you try it on the freeway at 60? I hope you got insurance b/c I'm gonna blow your doors clean off. Especially when you start pushing more boost, the power is almost unlimited, almost.
