I rest my case. You stated "Especially when you start pushing more boost, the power is almost unlimited, almost." A STOCK, STOCK, STOCK (i.e. the way it left the factory and was sold to the customer) 745i will NOT beat a new F-car. Like I said, modify it and things are now totally different. The point of my reply was to argue the ignorant statement that "Americans with their big engines do not make a lot of hp" or something to that effect.

I agree that comparing a 15 year old BMW with a 2000 pony car is not fair. A couple of years ago I was driving my buddy's '97 Camaro Z28 6 speed (285hp) when a guy in a Euro-spec M635CSi wanted to race. I have to give credit where credit is due, it was a close race but the Z28 won that one. And you cannot tell me that a stock 745i is faster than an M635CSi. And yes, it was an M because after the race we pulled over and talked for a while - I'm still a BMW nut no matter what and I wanted to check out his car.

I do not own a Camaro or Firebird, but I have to admit that they are fast. Don't get me wrong, I think that the pony cars are antiquated compared to the BMWs, and all that stuff, but I have to give them credit - they are bloody fast. And cost a fraction of the Bimmer's admission price.

As for ZF making the best transmissions in the world - huh?? How many failures have you seen on these POS automatics on the E23s? My 116K pampered, bought from the original owner 733i (my father) is on its 3rd transmission and hopefully its last (a remanufactured, dealer bought unit installed just over 4 months ago). A friend was complaining that the transmission went on his '87 Mustang GT at 240K miles. I was a little too embarrassed to mention how great my BMW was compared to his Mustang then.

In case you're wondering, we have been a BMW family for almost 20 years - always having at least one BMW during that time. At this time we own 5 and love every one of them to death, but I cannot believe some of the wild claims people make.
