GSM phone car kit (archive)

I need to know if I can install a GSM phone car kit other than the factory installed bulky Siemens S10. My car is a 99 BMW 735iL.
If I install a regular car kit, I will not benefit from the features of the original equipment such as lowering the radio volume when a new call is recieved or dailed.
