O'k, my monday morning was worse than normal. My 735 fired right off, but idled very rough. It quit after about 10 seconds and refused to start again. The temp had dropped to about freezing the night before, but this was not the first night of cool temps. I tried starting fluid, no joy. Finally gave up and took the 535 to work. Tonight I finally had a chance to work on it.
At the first attempt it sounded like it wanted to start, but wouldn't catch and run. A close inspection of the hoses and connections showed no obvious problems. I put a meter on the cold start injector and cranked the engine. I had voltage for a few seconds, then it dropped to zero, so that looked good. The engine also immediatly caught and ran, but only for about 5 seconds. This was with the intake hose off so I could get to the injector harness, so it should have been very lean. The I put the intake hoses back on, except for a small vacuum line connected to the valve cover line, and left the cold start injector connector off. Again the engine started, but was rough and would not idle or respond to throttle inputs. Then I put everything back together again and tried once more. This time it was back to sounding like it wanted to start, but never catching.
Anybody care to give their armchair opinion of what to look for? I've gone thru my Bentley and nothing jumped out at me. Since it fired so easily with most of the intake system disconnected it would seem to rule out basic fuel and ignition. Am I looking at some odd injector problem? I have not had this car too long and have noticed it has a tendency to run rough on initial, cold start-up, maybe for 10- 15 seconds like it is a little rich, but then it smooths out and idles well. It currently has bosch platinums, but I have some of the Seibers on order.
