The intake reads 3.2/3.4 because (I believe) it's the same for both engines. The reason the car is named 745i is because BMW engineers estimated the power output to be equal to that of a 4.5 liter engine. When the engine was upgraded to 3.5 liters, the output I'm sure increased as well, but BMW already had great name recognition with "745i" so they left it alone. 7xxi sounded more in line with BMW's naming convention than 732 Turbo.

First off the only "stock" 6 cyl. with four usable seats that you have a hope of seeing in your lifetime that can blow the doors off a 745i is a Buick Regal T/GN. It may not have the top end of a 745i but it is definately quicker. Looks pretty mean too.
The manifold says 3.2/3.4L b/c the manifolds are interchangeable between the different displacement M30 engines. Turbo's do not add displacement but you can figure theoretical displacement by multiplying by a constant which is what BMW did to come up with the 745i. I feel that the M102 HP is underated anyway but especially in the 3.5L configuration. I have not seen any comparisons of HP/Torque between the two motors but I have been told that the Torque band is a lot flatter in the 3.5L. Any blown motor is superior to Naturally aspirated but a turbo is even better than a Supercharger. You are not using the Turbo all the time, and the turbo is like adding a perpetual motion machine to your motor, it builds power off of exhaust gasses not of the crankshaft of the motor like a supercharger. In a turbo if you want to add more boost it is usually as simple as modifying the vacuum to the wastegate on the turbo. SC have to change pulleys and such to accomplish the same goal.
The 745i is one the Best Sedans made in the last 20 years! I am not saying that a GN is better, only much quicker in a straight line b/c it doesn't do anything as well as the 745i except go fast in a straight line. The 745i is almost 2 tons too, not many Full size luxery sedans can boast the abilities of the 745i, not even the 750iL and certainly not anything by MB. Not only is this car FAST, it is one of the most beautiful cars I have ever had the pleasure of sitting in "Exec. Model only". I used to drive a plain 733i which was nice, but not as nice as an interior completely covered in Water Buffalo Hide.
