Friends -
Curious if anybody has had to replace their fan clutch because it was 'over-cooling' - too 'stiff' rather than too 'loose', a common source of running hot. My E23 has always run to the left of center of temp gauge, with colder weather it takes quite a while to heat up. New H2O pump and thermostat last year, ran fine last winter ... temp gauge sender checks out OK.
TIA

Last spring my clutch locked up (85 735i). I noticed the noise when I would run the engine through the gears. It was great for a while as the fan pulled lots of air. But I was worried that the clutch would fail and come apart or cause the water pump seal and bearing to fail. So I replaced the clutch and pump. New clutch has been OK but I have had lots of problem with the new water pump as the seal has started to leak. I don't know if this was a bad seal or if this is a problem with this type of pump.
