How the hell does one get the door caps off this car? Even more baffling to me is the center console wood and the wood surroundin the ashtray(the ones which hold the window switches). Any help much appreciated.

This is easy...... Have you got a week to work on it? The console wood is held in place with the plastic 9mm nuts used on door trim. There may be a possibility to remove them by taking out the ashtray, but I do not know if there is enough room. If not remove center console as has been suggested.

The door caps are held in place with 4 screws hidden by the door panel. After removing these the caps take some force to lift off since the window trim is friction clipped in place.

Now for the week of work. The easiest way to remove the dash wood is to remove the dash. I did this while changing dashes so I don't know if you can reach the two nuts holding the wood by removing just the dash and console, or if that would take less than a week.

But if you can get there, it's easy.
