I have a 84 745i with 72K original. That mileage is not that far off. I get about 12 in town. Ditto for the highway. Could get better on the highway if you drive it like a old lady. I think you are rigt in the ballpark.

Get the replacement Borla for the exhaust. About 300 or so.

I have a pristine '85 745i that was recently restored by myself and our neighborhood shop. Rerbuilt turbo, valve job and a whole lot of other work (pretty much repalced everything on the engine). Tuned and passed inspections.

Problem: 1500 miles since the operation, the car gets 12mpg city and 15 mpg highway. I have read that it should get 17 city and at least 20 highway. Thought it may have been a leaky fuel line, replaced them, thought it could have been a leaking injector, tested and replaced as necessary, thought it could have been cold starting systems and tested/ repaires/ replaced as necessary. Car gets consistenlty (exactly) two-thirds the economy the OB computer calculates it to be.

I am at a loss, poor mileage persists. any ideas. Please le me know, I love the car.

P.S. : does anyone have any recomendations/ comments on replacing the muffler?
