What is the differential Ratio on a 1984 U.S. Spec E23 733i? Was it availabe in limmited Slip? A local guy has one but doesn't know the technicals of it. Please let me know

The 733 ratios can be 2.79,2.93,up to 3.64.VERY few were limited slip rears.
There should be a metal tag on the differential showing it's ratio, and an "s" in yellow stamped on the case if it's limited slip.

How do you figure. My owners handbook said that they are all LSD. Besides POSI what other kinds of differentials are there? Those are the only two I've ever heard of. I thought that if it is not one than it has to be the other. i.e. posi/lsd

"posi" IS lsd...same thing;and most differentials I've removed have been open rears except in "is" e30 and e28 cars, which are mostly lsd differentials.
Easy to check; put the rear wheels in the air....If turning one wheel turns the other in the same direction,it's a limited slip.If turning one rear wheel turns the other in the OPPOSITE direction,it's an "open" rear.
End of today's lesson.
