A family member is considering buying a 1985 735. I have heard many people say that the e28 cars are much more reliable, in addition to handling and accelerating better. Any advice on the relative reliability? Thanks

I have both. The 7 has 240 hp vs a stock 182 in the 5. Both have 5-speed sticks and suspension, wheel and tire upgrades. The 5 is much more tossable. As for reliability, a defective heater core totals a 7. I like the 7 but the 5 is an easier car to live with day in and day out. The one advantage of the 7 is the larger size. Get it if you need it. I've owned the 5 since 86 and the 7 since 98.
