Having owned several of both, I prefer the e28 for fun-to-drive quotent and lower maintenance cost, though the e23 is a more comfortable car for long trips. My favorite e23 was a Euro with the no-problem climate system. The US system is trouble. Engine and tranny wise, they are identical.

A family member is considering buying a 1985 735. I have heard many people say that the e28 cars are much more reliable, in addition to handling and accelerating better. Any advice on the relative reliability? Thanks
