It is not an alternator problem. When you say that the starter does not work, do you hear the electric starter engine engage? If so, then the problem you have is that there is no connection of the starter and the flywheel. This can be caused by an internal failure of the started (the part that engages the flywheel) or wear on the flywheel itself. My suspicion is that you should buy an OE started. A starter can test good in the sense that the electrical engine works but the solenoid and associated components are out of speck. Finally, if you hear a loud metallic scraping noise when you start the car, then you definitely have a bad flywheel, and need to change the starter and the flywheel together. The flywheel change entails dropping the transmission, and the total cost for this procedure at a good shop will be about $1000. Good luck.
