BIG; do you LIKE this family member? If not, encourage him or her to buy it. Perfect revenge for any wrongs you might have suffered in the past.

Don't hate me, e23 folks. It is my duty as an ex 733i owner to TELL THE TRUTH and save BIG the misery and agony of owning one of these bombs.

Look, you want luxury, get an MBZ 300E. Quieter, faster, handles better. Yeah, they cost more, but there is a reason for that. EVERYTHING WORKS.

I know it is tempting, I too bought one of these "cheap" e23's. Pristine, low miles, half the cost of a comparable Benz, leather and wood and oh so sharp. But what a HEADACHE!!! It was the worst BMW, and the worst car, that I have ever owned.

Just read comments on this board. It is not the engine, but the AC climate control system that is ALWAYS a problem and costs BIG BUCKS to service. It is not a one-time repair; you will spend over $1200 getting it fixed, and three weeks later it will all CRAP OUT ON YOU AGAIN.

The car is disappointing for other reasons. It handles like a yacht. It is an extremely old design, and not a very good one; too much weight on a suspension designed for smaller cars. It takes forever to stop.

Hey, you might like driving the equivalent of a German Oldsmobile. But this car WILL cost you money. Unless you enjoy cranking the windows down in a luxury car because there is no AC and no heat. And I didn't even mention the electric seats and a myriad of other things that QUIT WORKING all the time.

Ever wonder why a mid 80's 325e that originally cost less than half the price of an e23 now sells for 2x the price? Because the e30 is a GREAT CAR. Get an e28 for high speed cruising, get an e30 for fun and tossability.

A family member is considering buying a 1985 735. I have heard many people say that the e28 cars are much more reliable, in addition to handling and accelerating better. Any advice on the relative reliability? Thanks
