I must agree with the Invader. The 7 is NOT a good car. Unless you like spending $$$ on aggravating stuff and driving a car that is only fun when driven in a straight line.

Some of the responses praise the 7 as a "cruiser" and stress that it is a "different" car than the e28, suggesting that they shouldn't be compared?

First, if you want a "cruiser", that is something Benz does much better, anyway. Second, the 5 and 7 are similar in certain key respects; the engine, for instance. Rather than note that they are "different", I consider that one is just a bloated, over-weight version of the other.

Bimmer faithful now deplore the new "SAV" as heresy. But when the 7 series came out, much the same was said. It was criticized for being against everything BMW stood for.

There is (or was) an L7 (the supah-luxury version of the 735i)in San Francisco with a license plate that reads, "L7 BOMB". Kinda says it all for this car.

A family member is considering buying a 1985 735. I have heard many people say that the e28 cars are much more reliable, in addition to handling and accelerating better. Any advice on the relative reliability? Thanks
