Glen good news :)
Sounds like to me it is not your steering,
that little pump is the vacum pump for the heater
and engine vacum controls, trye this, on the side
to the fender (drivers side is a hose wich comes
out and goes over to the passenger side, turn your
key tuil you hear them pump going, unhook the hose
put your finger over it, and see if it stops,
if it does you know the pump is fine, now replug the hose back on, wait a minute or 3 see if the pump stops again, (you do not need the engine running for this) if it does not or stop and start again you have a vaccum leak. Lets trye this first.
And no Glen this pump has nothing to do with the brake system, now to your brake system are you sure the fluid is coming from the master cylinder?
The reson I'm asking is, your brakebooster is right above the master cylinder, and when they leake, the can leak on to the master cylinder and make you think it is the master cylinder, do this.
Take a rag, clean up around the master cylinder and the booster. The booster is right on the fire wall on the drivers side, you cant miss the looks of it, I will incl. a pic. of it for you here.
Lets see first and then fix it. :)
Sincerely Jens
