Has anyone done this before.. I have gone over it with numerous people who havent done it-- and gone through all the senarios as to what might happen. but I need to see what REALLY is achievable not what MIGHT happen- The engine is motronic and I am wondering about getting a flywheel on the engine and the whole attaching the Getrag 260 to the motor..throwout bearing and all...I am pretty sure the tranny brain can be bypassed with relative ease.. so that really isnt an issue.
Any info would be great here... and thanks for all the help with this project so far!!

Is it really worth it? I purposely went out of my way to find a 5 spd for my e23 (82 733i), and in retrospect i wish i had just got one of the more adundant automatics. Its a heavy car and shifting smoothly takes finesse and effort sometimes. On days when I dont feel like doing aggressive driving or when im stuck in stop and go i really wish i had bought an auto. As for if its possible: almost any project is possible if you are ready to invest time and money. But maybe its not really worth all of the effort (and risk screwing up your beautiful car). If you really want a 5spd I would try selling your car and buying one. I know I would buy it if it was a good deal. Well thats just my opinion.
