Henry,
I replaced the inner and outer tie rods and that did stop the play I had in my '82 733i. I have 251K on my Bimmer and the steering is tight again. I ordered the parts from Bavarian Auto Sport. I had to ordered this special puller to remove the ends also. Alignment afterwards is a must. Otherwise it was a easy job.

What is an acceptable amount of steering wheel freeplay on a 1982 733i? I seem to have an excessive amount. It seems like it might be a worn connection to the power steering unit. Any ideas would be appreciated.
