Hey Travis, I too have owned an E23 with rust problems. My latest '83 733i has some surface rust about 8 little spots, not requiring new metal to be installed, except for two perforations in my rear wheel wells, these will require new metal(if you have the same problem). I am letting a professional bodyshop do the bodywork, and with this, and a brand new paint job. This is a more ocstly way to go about it, but in the end will have better results than a "home" job.
About the chrome and aluminum, I use a product called autosol, it's a rubbing compound, it has good results.
