A drive to work car? Never thought of my BMW that way.(and I out on 700 miles aweek on 17yr old car) Face it most Americans drive there cars into the ground and then curse them when they don't act like they want or die. (I'm American) One thing that you see here are people who love their cars. We fix and tinker for the joy of it--at least I do--lots can go wrong, but thats true of any car. Take a 17 year old american car add 200K and see what you have---hint you are proably in a junk yard.

BMW's run and run and run--they even run when other cars would have given up the ghost. I know someone who is alive today because of his five series e23. He had a head on and because of BMW's designe he walked away with a bloodie nose. The car was totaled, the radiator was mashed to the front of the engine and the hood bent to accordian shape and the buckle points behind the windshield were bent into a configuration that left me wondering how the windshield was intact. At the wrecking yard we pried the radiator away and--it started and ran.

You can own a BMW or you can drive a BMW and love it. If you want a get to work car buy amercian and run it into the ground---if you want a driving experiance like no other--drive a BMW. Dispite problems and many samll fixes my BMW has never failed to start and get me where I was going.
