For what it's worth, if everything works well, the car is in truly excellent condition and I had $8K burning a hole in my pocket, I would buy it.

I agree with Matt G. You can pick up a 735i for much less money but...

The mileage will be in the mid to high 100s.
The paint will probably be tired.
Ditto for the leather and the rest of the interior.
Could be a very expensive proposition to repair all the little odds and ends.

You could easily spend the $8K or more (including the car) to "restore" an old E23 to an acceptable level.
