1/4" of coat hanger wire in the headrest motor's cable drive usually fixes it.

Hi fellow, I got a few problems with my 1987 735i. The OBC presents erroneous temperature info but the other functions work okay. The driver's seat seat warmer does not work for the seat bottom. And, the headrest cushion does not go up and down (the passenger side works) but only makes a clicking noise when the switch is pressed. What to do?

There is a temp sensor somehwere in the front grille or spoiler area. Costs about $50. I never bothered to replace mine. Saved me $50.

Ditto on the seat heater.

I've never SEEN an E23 headrest move. I don't think they really do.

Of course, you could remove the seatback, and then you'll see all the workings of the headrest.
You'll have to fiddle with it.
