85 735i thermostat change (archive)

I put a new thermostat in today as planned but am still getting a temp drop from 1/2 to 1/3rd scale when the car goes down hills etc? The whole reason for the change was
to stop this from happening and keep it at 1/2 way all the time.

Is it normal behaviour for the temp to fluctuate between
1/2 and 1/3rd scale or is it rock solid 1/2 way all the time.

What is the 80deg point on the temp gauge?

Any ideas at to what else is causing the temp variation?
