In an old European Car issue, there was an interview with Vic Doolan. Apparently, BMW raced the E23 in saloon races and it was successful. When the E32 came out, all racing of 7 series stopped.

According to the article, the idea came from a rogue group of BMW engineers at the time and I don't think it was officially sanctioned by BMW.

Anyone out there have add'l info. on this?


The e23 was raced in South Africa by BMW-SA. This is how the "M745" came about. Not a turbo 745 but a 735 with the M engine. A few of these RHD cars are floating about.
