86 735i no signs of life finally in crank position (archive)

Well I'm still having those "hot" starter issues, but finally a new fault has occurred. After the ignition "on" position is reached no further activity occurs when going to "crank" position.

I was having issues with the starter but there would be
soleniod activiy and high pressure for the rear fuel pump.

Now I have nothing when I go to crank. The battery is
12.6v nominally but does not drop when going to crank.

Apart from the ignition switch which I did have replaced what component failure would stop any activity occurring etc.

I have checked the fuses they seem ok.

I am really hoping it will be some component in the engine bay as this has been giving me hell over recent months.
