I've used a couple sets of Avon CR 28 tyres in the 220-55VR390 size until five years ago when I bought 16" rims and tyres. I liked the grip of the Avons vs the TRX but I have read on the board (E28 or E23 don't remember which) that the Avons wear more quickly. I know back then they were cheaper than VR TRXes but I do not know where to find either. Maybe some of our British board members can advise if Avon still has a metric tyre available. I'd change wheels at this point, because without TRX (Mich. sold it to Coker Tire in Chattanooga, a reproduction tire outfit, which has not started TRX production yet) and the unknown availability of Avon and the 20 years of tire technology advances almost anything is better. You should look at the E23, E24 and E28 boards for TRX, Avon and Wheel recommendations.
