I've heard that the cable can break. I had the same problem on my '86 when I bought it, but on mine the hinge for the seat back was actually broken. You can tell if this is your problem by lifting up on the seat back. If you can move it around this may be your problem, but don't despair. I was able to weld mine up and it is working so far. I had to replace the lock assembly on my driver's side because the back lever was broken off of the lock. As I remember there are switches that the mechanism depresses to send the signal to lock or unlock the door. You can see them if you put the driver's window up and remove the inner door panel. Getting to them is lots harder than seeing them though. If these are the only problems you have starting out you made a good purchase. One thing I like about these cars is you can unlock everything from the trunk. I'd really like to just install a remote lock/unlock because the lock assemblies on these seem to break a lot. You will find this list invaluable. Welcome aboard!
