Hi George,
Matt,
Thanks for the response. Knew that was a tough
question but had to ask it as few have the per-
spective of a man that have access to so many
fine cars. Sounds like you give tall praise to
your modified 745i!
What have you done to that Northstar in your 97
STS to make it high on your list?....I have a baby Northstar (4.0 liter/250 horse) in my 2001 Aurora (daily driver) ...interested in
what mods you've performed...any exhaust system
work?
Best Regards,
George

Thank you and everone elso for all the nice complements! My favorite car???? Tough discision. There are different cars for different purposes. The way I look at it, if a car has 2 doors it better be damn fast as there really is no other use for it. I have 7 very rare corvettes all have well over 400HP and one with 700 and all are capable of 200MPH and one way over. If you are asking me to compare the 745i to these, thats apples to oranges. The corvettes are extremely fast, handle excellent and I dont think there is a BMW in existance that can touch the performance, less a formula 1 BMW car. Now since the 745 has 4 doors, it can afford to not be as fast. The 745 is a great dirving car as with most BMWs and has easily added power to close to 400HP. Now the torque is the best of any BMW I know of and is what makes the 745 a fast car. Being that the 745 has 4 doors and is pretty fast, I'd say its really one of the neatest cars ever built and most people have no clue what they are up against. I love the M6, but it follows my 2 door rule and better be damn fast and it is very much lacking there for a 2 door. Is the 745 my favorite... Close... At this point my 97 STS with a fair quantity of mods is more favorible and is flat out fast for a 4 door even though it is a front dragger. Of course it was not as fast as it is now when it was stock, but neither was the 745. I would say if I drove the 745 everyday it would be my favorite, but I will not do that to this low milage car. I give it an honest second out of all my cars incuding corvettes, cadillacs, jeeps, rare trans ams and an acura, but it is growing on me daily!

Matt,
It goes without saying, you are a lucky man. Quite a car collection! Mod's you are doing are
very tasteful. Wheel selection really compliments
the car...more so than many other model Bimmers
these wheels often replace stock wheels with. As posted below, if you crank the boost, that ZF tranny will probably eventually blink...not the stoutest auto tranny by design. Wonder if a late model 540i 6-speed would bolt up without too much surgery?
Matt, have to ask you, How would you rate this
car in terms of overall enjoyment relative to all
the cars in your collection? Can you identify
your favorite car?
Best Regards,
George
90 735il/145K..some mods but normally aspirated.

Well, I got it last week and have completed a few of my mods. I have taken some pics and have a lint to them here. The weather here in Dallas is terrible so the pictures are inside but are fair. So far I have removed the (still working) self-leveling and replaced with bypass kit and spring using bilstien sport struts/shocks front and rear (big improvment) second, I added the late model 5 series wheels and used Goodyear 245/45 17's (best improvment) third, I have upgraded the motronic prom with the Tuamo prom. I had to burn it myself as I bought the .bin file from them by email so I did not have to pull my motronic for a month. The waste gate is going to be modified by Tuamo also but I am sending another so I dont have to pull mine. On Tuesday I am going to have a dual 2 and 1/4 custom exhaust system built using 2 brand new 745I stock rear chrome tips I found. This exhaust will have no cat or resonator and will use a modified BMW muffler that my muffler guy is working on now. It will look 100% stock from the rear. When its done it should have the modest 350HP+ and 400+ on torque I am looking for but will probably be destined to a life of B-32 leaded gas like my two callaway twin turbo corvettes. I am hoping it will have more power than my slightly modified STS, but the STS is a tough car to beat as it has gone 170MPH and runs 13.20 at 102. I have to admit this 745i has really impressed me in its condition and its overall factory quality. Its stock performance is not bad either, but has a ways to go to be considered a "supercar". I have an 86 735 (bilstiens and M6 wheels) that is in the same condition, but the 735 is a lathargic slug for performance and is no comparison too this turbo car but is still a great car. This 745 just might be the nicest 745i left on earth and I am going to do my best to keep it that way as it is in my collection of over 15 cars in a climate controlled garage. It will probably see about 500 miles a year and come out on occasion to show and to surprise the doubters and the talkers. More to follow!
