86 735i Distributor Cap Removal (archive)

Last night I made an attemp to remove the distributor cap, but got fed up with the plastic fan "guard" (Is that the right word??) The fan itself seems to be in the way too. It was 11:30 so I gave up and went to bed. If any one has done this please drop me some helpful tips to make this job easier. Thanks.
