A couple days ago, I went out to start up my '84 733i and a big cloud of white or blue-white smoke came out. It has NEVER smoked before. As I was on my way to change the oil anyway, I did so. It did not seem to have water in it, at least it didn't separate out at all. I use Castrol GTX 20W50 oil. I checked the air filter, and it has oil on it. I traced the source of this oil back through the mass air flow meter and so on. A mechanic suggested my valve stem guides are leaking and a possible vacuum leak problem. It seems odd to me that this happened OVERNIGHT. The engine seems to run fine. No weird noises. Suggestions?
