So, after freaking out that I had blown a head gasket or cracked a head or something equally detrimental to my wallet, I start the car up again and drive over to get another case of oil. No smoke. Zero. None. Car runs better than it has been in the last few weeks.

I guess I'll just assume it's the valve stem guides and hope for the best. Maybe something was gunked up and cleared itself out. Can't diagnose a problem that fixes itself :-)
