These smoking problems seem inconsistent at times, but anticipate that it will come back. Again. If the smoke is only on start-up, only lasts a minute or two, and is light blue-grey, I would lay my money on valve seals. I currently have 5 bimmers and only have one that doesn't do it. I'll be damned if I'm going to open up my engine and the can of worms that normally comes with that, to fix a problem that will be back in 20,000 miles.

BTW, I'll take all the self-fixing problems I can get. I could use a break now and then... Just kidding. It IS eery when problems disappear. It's like having the shark fin disappear from the surface of the water, and not knowing if you're going to get any warning before you lose a leg, or two. Maybe that's why so many of you refer to our babies as shark-nose.
