Up until a month ago I wasn't driving my '84 733i very much. It just sat in the garage and I would take it out every now and then. The battery kept dying on me and I thought that it had a drain somewhere too. I would drive it for an hour or so, park it and the next day it had already lost most of its charge, leading me to believe there was something majorly wrong with my car.

I had it checked out and the BMW mechanics all agreed that just jump starting it and taking it for a quick spin (which is exactly what I was doing) was not sufficient to charge the battery. Sure enough, you need to take it out on the highway for a long drive and not let it sit for long until it is fully charged again.

Since making the car my daily driver I have not experienced any problems with the battery (1 year old DieHard). I didn't drive it for a week straight a few weeks ago and it still started right up. Charge it with a charger (don't just jump it) and drive it for a while. Drive it again the next day and each day after that and it should be just fine.
