The replacement of the shift bushings is possible, but there is a lot of work involved in getting to where the work is. The exhaust and driveshaft may have to be removed to get enough access to the shift linkage to replace the bushings. What you need to do is replace the two connectors on the horizontal shift rod, (one at each end), possibly the horizontal shift rod and especially the o-rings and spacer washers in these assemblies. It would be good to check/replace the bushing the lower shift lever ball rides in also. This will make the shifter feel like new. All this work is not hard, just deep. The cost is not too high as complete replacement short shift kits are 150-300 bucks. The cold weather shift problem is probably due to gearbox lubricant. Most people use Redline MTL or some other synthetic. You can use ATF for the winter months, too. Poly bushings won't affect this, but while changing the fluid inspect the condition of the rear tranny mounts, they get soft from the tranny fluid which leaks on them. This contributes to vagueness in the system.
You mention synchros also, if you are grinding gears this is indicated. THT
