Visiting from the 2002 board. Just by chance ran across 2 7-series BMW's today and need some quick advice on which one to buy. The first is a 84 733i-5 speed. In awesome shape, has 200,000 but motor was rebuilt at 189,000 at dealer. Other is a 85 735i-auto. Has 199,300 and also was rebuilt. Which one? Both are priced at $2200. Both interiors are clean. Basically asking Auto vs. Standard and engine diffrences. 2002's are pretty straight forward and simple (dont tell them that over there :)

Im sure the standard trans is more reliable - but if the auto is modified @ rebuild its probably OK too. I would say make your decision on gut feeling on the integrity or the engine - then decide which trans youd rather have. Good luck either way!
