Your 7-series is basically a great big, confortable cruiser, best on the highway. I drive an 85 automatic - it's a heavy car as you know and the automatic works well with the 3.4 engine. It has been taken car of, same motor, same transmission, currently at 362,000 km. Now, if you had a 745i to purchase, I would recommend definitely the standard. Really depends on how each car drives.
