You need to fix the vacuum leak you've described below. Don't get frustrated - the default behavior for the system is to route air through the upper vents. Selecting defrost mode initiates other solenoids and actuators, but you have a leak, so the air isn't routed through the defrost air path as expected. Sounds crazy, I know. Hang in there, find your leak and/or broken actuator, and keep at it.

no defrost...when i push the defrost button on the control panel..nothing happens(no defrost)but when i push the ac the air comes out the defrost vents.
